San Jose Water Infrastructure Upgrades Underway in Monte Sereno with the Hillview Pipeline Replacement Project

New pipeline installation schedule slated to run through November 2023 as SJW invests in infrastructure.

SAN JOSE, Calif., September 25, 2023 – San Jose Water (“SJW” or “the Company”), a wholly-owned subsidiary of SJW Group (NYSE: SJW), announced today that the Hillview Pipeline Replacement Project is now underway to upgrade water infrastructure. SJW is committed to delivering the highest standard of service by consistently maintaining and improving facilities to meet the needs of the community.

SJW allocates over $100 million annually to infrastructure. This investment leads to the replacement of about 24 miles of water mains each year, underpinning the Company's focus on strengthening system resiliency and benefiting SJW customers. These actions directly contribute to delivering safe and reliable water while minimizing potential service disruptions from leaks.

"This August marked the beginning of our water pipeline replacement project in Monte Sereno, and we thank impacted community members for their patience while we make the necessary upgrades." stated John Tang, Vice President of Regulatory Affairs & Customer Service at SJW. "It is critical to replace aging water infrastructure with new materials, ensuring continued high-quality and reliable water service for residents."

Said Monte Sereno Mayor Bryan Mekechuk, “Many residents, including me, take basic utility infrastructure for granted. Periodic investments are required to prevent major problems and outages from occurring. While the infrastructure improvements underway may cause short-term inconveniences, these improvements will result in long-term safety and increased reliability.”

Residential impact may include:

  • Brief Service Interruption: As pipelines are replaced and reconnected, there may be short, infrequent water service interruptions.
  • Minor Traffic Delays: During installation, residents may notice increased traffic or occasional lane closures for safety reasons.
